國慶節(jié)是每個國家的重要節(jié)日，但名稱有所不同。許多國家叫“國慶節(jié)”或“國慶日”，還有一些國家叫“獨立日”或“獨立節(jié)”，也有的叫“共和日”、 “共和國日”、“革命日”、“解放日”、“國家復(fù)興節(jié)”、“憲法日”等，還有直接以國名加上“日”的，如“澳大利亞日”、“巴基斯坦日”，有的則以國王的生日或登基日為國慶日，如遇國王更替，國慶的具體日期也隨之更換。

每逢國慶日，各國都要舉行不同形式的慶�；顒�，以加強本國人民的愛國意識，增強國家的凝聚力。各國之間也都要相互表示祝賀。逢五逢十的國慶日，有的還要擴大慶祝規(guī)模。為慶祝國慶日，各國政府通常要舉行一次國慶招待會，由國家元首、政府首腦或外交部長出面主持，邀請駐在當?shù)氐母鲊�使�?jié)和其他重要外賓參加。但也有的國家不舉行招待會，如美國、英國均不舉行招待會。
